Transit Operations

For road and rail transport, we handle common and national transit via NCTS, TIR and ATA Carnet operations, with full guarantee and deadline tracking.

Overview

The transit procedure allows goods to move from one customs office to another, or through Türkiye to third countries, without paying duties and taxes. An accurate declaration, an adequate guarantee and compliance with time limits are the keys to closing transit operations smoothly. As customs brokers, we handle your transit operations from our head office in Kayseri and our branch and liaison offices.

Types of transit

As Türkiye is a contracting party to the Convention on a Common Transit Procedure, common transit declarations can be lodged via NCTS (the New Computerized Transit System) for movements involving the EU and the other contracting countries. National transit is used between two customs offices within Türkiye, while road transport operations can be carried out with a TIR Carnet under the TIR Convention.

For goods sent temporarily, such as trade fair and exhibition items, samples and professional equipment, an ATA Carnet simplifies both transit and temporary admission with a single document.

Guarantee and deadline management

Duties and taxes on goods under the transit procedure are secured by a guarantee. An individual guarantee or, for authorized companies, a comprehensive guarantee may be used; calculating the guarantee amount correctly is a prerequisite for the declaration to be accepted.

The goods must be presented at the customs office of destination within the time limit set by the office of departure and with seals intact. Exceeding the time limit or failing to end the procedure properly can lead to the guarantee being called and to penalties. That is why we monitor transit declarations until they are closed at destination.

Frequently asked questions

What is NCTS?

NCTS (the New Computerized Transit System) is the system through which common and national transit declarations are lodged and tracked electronically. By connecting the offices of departure and destination, it allows transit operations to be closed quickly and traceably.

What happens if the transit time limit is exceeded?

If the goods are not presented at the office of destination within the set time limit, the reason for the delay is investigated; if no valid justification can be provided, consequences such as the guarantee being called and administrative fines may follow. Reporting any incidents during transport in good time reduces this risk.

Why is a guarantee required for transit?

Duties and taxes on goods under the transit procedure have not yet been paid. The guarantee secures the amount owed to the state in case the goods do not reach their destination in line with the procedure’s rules; its amount is based on the duties and taxes applicable to the goods.
